Frank is supreme overlord
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

That means over the next four years, they will spend at least $44 billion (about) just on Christmas presents. These stadiums are major public goods, major pieces of community infrastructure, and the two brand new stadiums are going to cost just $500 million a year over four years.

Maybe we could spend very slightly less on Christmas presents... and give the money to our local sports clubs, or spend it on the sports registration fees?

This whole thing is a MASSIVE beat up by a politically motivated rugby union journalist!
Absolutely. If this money was somehow helping Rugby union (exclusively) you wouldn't hear a peep out of him.

Qatar to Host National Rugby League in 2018

All things being equal, rugby fans in Qatar are set to see rugby league national teams of Fiji, Tonga and Samoa in actions for the very first time in the country during a competition scheduled for early 2018, Michael Ibrahim, founder and CEO of Aqeeq Holdings LLC has said.

Ibrahim noted that negotiations are in top gear between the sport's governing body International Rugby League Federation (IRLF), the governments of the three islands and his company.

NRL Women's Premiership set to launch in 2018

A new NRL Women's Premiership will be launched in 2018, along with a State of Origin match on the stand-alone representative weekend and Test matches for the Jillaroos in the Pacific and New Zealand.

Greenberg said the new competition was scheduled to be played as "double-headers" in the lead up to and during NRL Finals matches, to ensure the women’s teams are given the chance to play on the biggest stage.

He said the new women’s program unveiled on Wednesday would also feature:

- A stand-alone State of Origin match (formerly known as the Interstate Challenge) between New South Wales and Queensland, played during the NRL’s representative weekend in mid-June.

- State League competitions, with Grand Finals to be played as double-headers prior to Women In League Round matches.

- A National Championships Carnival and Talent Combine, congregating the best state talent on a national stage and providing a sequential pathway for female players to progress to the elite level.

An announcement on six NRL Clubs aligned with the 2018 Women's Premiership teams will be made in the new year.

Looks the same as last year with Lodge replacing Blair. Don't worry about the Broncos, they'll be ok with their 7 day turnarounds and constant rub of the green.

Lost blair (who's lateral defence was poor towards the end of the year) and 2 of their bench forwards went to other clubs as 'marquee' players (household names).

Gained mago, lodge and that guy from superleague.

Not too much difference, still better than most packs boasting 2 current Aussie reps.

Oh yeah they'll definitely reap some advantage from their schedule but they've lost a lot of "ready to be 1st grade" and their depth recently:

Jarrad Wallace (Gold Coast Titans), Jai Arrow (Gold Coast Titans), Adam Blair (New Zealand Warriors), Herman Ese'ese (Newcastle Knights), Keegan Hipgrave (Gold Coast Titans), Francis Molo (North Queensland Cowboys)
What they've picked up since really doesn't replace it.
I guess I'm just hopeful of a shock missing of the 8.

Watch out for Hipgrave in a couple of years. He was dominant for the QLD origin 20s side.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Yup, so now once a player signs, they've signed. No backflips.

Usually found out about signings via the media 10 days before they were announced by the club anyhow.

Manly just released Cullen:

At least we didn't lose our main 5/8 and our best backup, and miss signing our first choice replacement.
