Brisbane Broncos unveil new training kit

THE Brisbane Broncos have unveiled a bold new look upon returning to pre-season training this year.

The Broncos hit the paddock at the University of Queensland on Wednesday morning in a teal training kit, much different to their traditional maroon and gold colours. The brighter shade was a throwback to the infamous teal jersey of 1998 and 2002.

Josh McGuire switch to lock backed by Brisbane Broncos teammate Matt Gillett

JOSH McGuire wouldn’t look out of place in Brisbane’s No. 13 NRL jersey according to second-rower Matt Gillett. Brisbane are on the lookout for a replacement for workhorse Corey Parker after the veteran retired at the end of last season. "He does like to play a lot of minutes and loves that game time. He’s pretty fit as well so no doubt if Josh does play in the No. 13 it will suit him fine."

The most amazing bit in that whole story is they signed Gillett to a 4yr deal... why?

Brisbane Broncos stars brace for massive 2017

Darius Boyd, Matt Gillett, Sam Thaiday, Adam Blair and Jordan Kahu all returned from their post-Four Nations break for day one of pre-season training on Wednesday with Boyd comfortably coming out on top in the Yo-Yo intermittent fitness drill.

"That little break between when we finished the season here at the Broncs and over to the Four Nations was really good for it," Gillett said of his shoulder injury.

Boyd vows to build on 'most complete' year

It will be remembered as the year in which Darius Boyd cemented his position as the game's premier custodian and emerged as a future leader of the Broncos but the 29-year-old has vowed to be even better in 2017.

"Sometimes when you get older and as the years go on it's probably harder to get out and train hard and give your best and that's one goal of mine for the new year. To come here to training every time and try and better myself and give it my all each time.

Brisbane Broncos finally bury ghosts of 2015

Darius Boyd collapsing in a mix of exhaustion and disbelief as Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt scored in the corner with only seconds on the clock was the most heart-wrenching image of the 2015 Telstra Premiership Grand Final.

"Maybe last year it might have been the back of our minds a little bit, the disappointment," Boyd said of the grand final heartache.

Benji Marshall's role at the Brisbane Broncos remains a mystery

Sam Thaiday did a double-take when he looked to see who was on his outside shoulder and Jordan Kahu is coming to terms with job-sharing with his boyhood idol, but how Benji Marshall fits into the Broncos set-up in 2017 remains a mystery.

"It is a bit weird," Thaiday said. "He's been bouncing into a few different positions as well, playing a bit of dummy-half, a bit of centre, jumps into the halves as well so who knows where we'll use him this year.

Brisbane Broncos Sam Thaiday to skip flash of Nines for fitness

You only need to catch a glimpse at the Budgy Smugglers he so readily displays to know that Sam Thaiday is not afraid of some flair but the Broncos back-rower says he will skip this year's Downer NRL Auckland Nines extravaganza in order to focus on his fitness.

"I'll skip the Nines; too flashy for me. I might come back as a retired player one day," said Thaiday, who captained the Broncos in last year's tournament and also played in the inaugural tournament in 2014.

Just saw Mitch Cronin has been named for the Broncos 9s team, when did they sign him?

No link sorry just a photo of a team list on Facebook, makes sense though they're short on hooker options.

The Broncos haven't announced their Nines team as far as I can see. Nor any indication Mitch Cronin has signed with the Broncos. He does play for the Seagulls, which is a feeder team for the Broncos, though.

Benji targets Nines for Brisbane Broncos debut

Brisbane may be beginning to feel like home but Benji Marshall is hoping to make his debut as Bronco on foreign soil at the Downer NRL Auckland Nines next month.

"I'll be on the plane for the Nines hopefully and get a start there and try and get some form on the board," Marshall said. "It's not too far away now, I'm looking forward to it. Get me on the field."

Brisbane Broncos James Roberts prepped for a big 2017

James Roberts says his first full pre-season with the Broncos will make a huge difference when the 2017 NRL season kicks off.

"I'm feeling really good this year. It felt like I was being heavily marked last year but I think I was a bit underdone in my fitness when I came back because it wasn't until January. This year I have a full pre-season and I feel a lot more a part of the club and the combinations are better.

Adam Blair vows to add weight to Brisbane Broncos middle

He began his career as a free-wheeling back-rower but Adam Blair has admitted he wants to bulk up in 2017 as he faces the prospect of starting the season as Brisbane's only experienced prop forward.

"I wouldn't mind being a little bit bigger. I play at 105, 106 [kilograms]. I wouldn't mind being a little bit heavier than that but that all depends on whether I can carry it out on the field. We'll see when trials come around how I go."

James Roberts has matured, says new Brisbane Broncos recruit David Mead

Brisbane centre James Roberts has matured and is ready to return to his best in the NRL this season, according to recruit David Mead.

Roberts' career was hanging by a thread after he checked into a rehabilitation facility in Thailand last year, ending a debut season with the Broncos that was continually disrupted by injuries, suspensions and off-field incidents.

Josh Dugan defends Benji Marshall, says he can make centre switch at Brisbane Broncos

ST GEORGE Illawarra fullback Josh Dugan has defended former teammate Benji Marshall, claiming the veteran was made a scapegoat for the Dragons’ poor performances last season.

"He was sort of thrown in the deep end and made a scapegoat," Dugan said. "As a whole, we never performed up to our standards. I don’t think you can put that blame on any one player, and for that, I definitely think he was thrown under the bus."

Roberts got kicked out of a nightclub in Broadbeach on the weekend for walking up to a woman he doesn't know and pulling her hair. Given that's something that I'd expect from a 6 year old, I'm not sure that mature is the word that comes to mind.

Brisbane Broncos star James Roberts accused of manhandling woman in Gold Coast nightclub

TROUBLED NRL star James Roberts has been accused of forcefully pulling a young woman by her hair at a Gold Coast nightclub.

The Brisbane centre was out early on Sunday morning after the Magic Millions horse racing event when he allegedly grabbed the woman from behind, causing pain to her neck, The Courier Mail reports.

Yeah, real mature.

Boy doesn't Mead look like an idiot now.

For all of Roberts indiscretions he really hasn't received much of a punishment for any of them,
he really has built up quite the rap sheet.

Another stint in Thailand rehab will sort James out for sure though.. no for reals this time.

And we got upset about a drink driving charge (which is no laughing matter and so we should)
Wonder if the fans got the cranks about this would the broncos sack him ?
