Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 11 Wrap Up

Woden has delivered their best performance of the year against the second placed Goulburn to record one of the season’s biggest upsets in front of an adoring home crowd.

“It was our best performance, particularly the first half,” Rams Coach Ash Barnes said. “We played a brand of footy that we know we are capable of which is very pleasing.

"The boys turned up with much better energy then we did last week and started really well. Our middles laid a really good platform for our halves and edges to work off. We had a large share of the ball in the first half, but what was most pleasing is that when Goulburn had multiple sets on our line, the boys worked hard defensively and were able to turn them away. "

Woden Valley Rams 56 (K Harawira 2, G Crapp, J Burns, J Martin, A Lucas, E Jenkins, D Roberts, J White, J Moala tries T Crome 6 K Harawira 2 goals) defeated Goulburn Workers 14 (M Dodson, J Vatikani, M Worboys tries C Hart goal)

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 32 (K Parsons 2, M Herold, J Macey, J Miller, B Cronan tries J Miller 4 goals) defeated Gungahlin Bulls 30 (D Connors 2, R O'Sullivan 2, J Ayers tries A Greenwood 5 goals)

Belconnen United Scholars 34 (J Brown 2, J Lafaele, A Pelasio, J Mago, S Tupuala tries A Pelasio 5 goals) defeated Tuggeranong Bushrangers 20 (J Pollard 2, B Brophy, W Bullock tries L Heyman 2 goals)

West Belconnen Warriors 46 (R McQueen 3, H Brown 2, J Baker, D Ewings, R Thomas, J Faketagoai tries H Brown 5 goals) defeated Queanbeyan Blues 18 (J Wheeler, R Griffen, K Sione tries C Wilkinson 3 goals)

Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 12 Preview

Star Kangaroos five-eighth Jordan Macey has warned his side of an anticipated bounce back from the Blues in the traditionally hotly contested local derby, after the defending premiers suffered back-to-back losses in recent weeks.

“They’re always close games when we play against the Blues so we’re not expecting anything different this weekend,” Macey said.

“The Blues have had a few injuries but I think they’re back to full strength this week. I think it’s probably the wrong time to get them this weekend because they will be looking to bounce back after two consecutive losses.”

Jordan Macey keen to continue winning streak with Queanbeyan Kangaroos

After returning from a "paid holiday" to play rugby union in Dallas, Queanbeyan Kangaroos five-eighth Jordan Macey is back and has orchestrated his team to a six-game winning streak. The next big test for the Kangaroos is facing their cross-town rivals the Blues at Freebody Oval on Saturday.

Queanbeyan Blues still in good position: Woolford

Despite more than a year of perfection coming to a screeching halt, Queanbeyan Blues coach Simon Woolford is confident his team can drag themselves out of the rut against the Queanbeyan Roos.

"We've had a purple patch since round four last season, but we've got ourselves into a rut these last couple of weeks," he said.

"We had guys coming and going with representative duties and we've had three or four poor weeks and that's showed coming up against better teams. It was realistic enough we were going to lull at some stage- given we were undefeated everyone was turning up to beat us."

Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 12 Wrap Up

The Kangaroos have overcome the top of the table Blues 17-4 in the traditionally fiercely competed local derby to storm into second position on the TTM Canberra Raiders Cup ladder.

“Our two starting front-rowers (Herold and Dunn) are going great, they'd have to be close to the two best in the competition,” Roos coach Aaron Gorrell said.

After a nine match winning streak, the Blues have now succumbed to three straight losses. The Blues made a host of uncharacteristic errors early on and the Roos made them pay by shooting out to a 16-0 lead with three tries in the first 19 minutes.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 17 (B Cronan, S Meke, A Taholo tries; J Miller 2 goals & field goal) defeated Queanbeyan Blues 4 (J Woolford try)

Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 13

Goulburn will be looking to regain their spot at second place on the TTM Canberra Raiders Cup ladder when they confront the in-form Queanbeyan Kangaroos on their home turf on Sunday afternoon.

The Roos are undoubtedly the competition’s form team with Aaron Gorrell’s men currently enjoying a seven match winning streak.

Leading the way in defence and attack in the middle of the field for the Roos have been starting front-rowers Maxime Herold and Steve Dunn.

“Our two starting front-rowers (Herold and Dunn) are going great, they'd have to be close to the two best in the competition,” Gorrell said.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 13 Wrap Up

West Belconnen has ended Woden’s dreams of playing in the semi-finals in 2015 and simultaneously realised their own ambitions with the Warriors confirming their place in the top four of the TTM Canberra Raiders Cup after the dominant 20-point triumph.

“Once they get a roll on it's really hard to stop, half the reason I'm retiring is those big guys on the edge coming at me,” said Rams captain Josh Burns, who will hang up the boots after 14 years with the Rams.

“They're a good team. We spoke about staying in the grind but in the end their brute size and power just rolled over the top of us. They'll challenge [winning] the comp, I know a lot of coaches are worried about them and they're dangerous.”

West Belconnen Warriors 42 (R McQueen 3, J Faletagoai, H Brown, I Hamad, M Uluakiola tries; H Brown 6, T Aroha-Tuinavuai goals) defeated Woden Valley Rams 22 (J White, K Harawira, E Jenkins, J Morgan tries K Harawira 3 goals)

Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 14 Preview

With their spot at second place on the ladder under threat from the Queanbeyan Kangaroos, Goulburn will have an extra incentive on the cards when they take on Gungahlin at home this Saturday afternoon, given the advantages derived from a finish in the top two.

A finish in the top two provides the top two teams with an extra chance in the semi-finals, something which is of course of vital importance.

“We've had a horror run with injuries and we’re slowly getting blokes back week by week,” Bulldogs Captain-Coach Mick Picker said.

“We've had to hang in there but we've got ourselves in a better position by winning against the Roos. I don't think it [back-to-back losses] is the worst thing in the world to happen. Sometimes, if you're winning every week you get complacent.”

Burns ready to hang up the boots

Woden Valley Rams captain Josh Burns will take to the field for the final time this week when they take on the Queanbeyan Kangaroos on Saturday. Burns felt the time was right to end his 14-year career and make way for some of the younger players at the club.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Minor Semi-Final Preview

It’s do-or-die at Seiffert Oval this Saturday as the Queanbeyan Kangaroos and the West Belconnen Warriors face off in the Minor Semi-final of the TTM Canberra Raiders Cup.

“It’s elimination from here on in and there are no second chances so we need to be at our best, and we will need to be against Westies because I’d say that they’re the form team of the competition,” said Roos Captain-Coach Aaron Gorrell.

“In 2013 we came from the same position to win the comp so hopefully we can do it again this year. We’re ready for the challenge.”

Minor Semi-Finals schedule at Seiffert Oval:

First Grade: Queanbeyan Kangaroos v West Belconnen Warriors at 3:00pm
Reserve Grade: Goulburn Workers Bulldogs v Woden Valley Rams at 1:20pm
Under 18 Division 1: Queanbeyan Kangaroos v Queanbeyan Blues at 12:00pm
Under 18 Division 2: Gungahlin Bulls v Bungendore Tigers at 10:40am

Queanbeyan Kangaroos English trio lead from the front

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos will rely heavily on their three English imports as they take on the West Belconnen Warriors in the sudden death semi-final at Seiffert Oval on Saturday. Jack Miller and Dan Maskill hail from Castleford, while teammate Ben Shulver is from Leeds. All three have been instrumental in the team's run to the finals.
