NYC Match Preview: Raiders v Panthers

One of the star performers in the Canberra Raiders Holden Cup match was promising halfback Tre Williams who scored one try and assisted in another two tries in his Holden Cup debut. Raiders centre Brenko Lee was impressed by the display from the Australian Schoolboy representative in Williams' first game in the Under 20’s.

“To come and play your debut game against a team that we needed to beat...I think he put his best foot forward,” Lee said. “Playing well against a team like Cronulla was good for him to get his confidence up. We need him to be as good again going into his second under 20’s game because Penrith are a really good side. ”

“[Coach Mick Mantelli] was really happy that we beat the Sharks knowing that we could go in with momentum into the Penrith clash. Penrith is a very tough team, obviously they are out the front of the 20’s competition so it is important to go into a tough game like this with momentum.”

No Brenko or Bateman? Either in line for late inclusions this afternoon, or injured?

2nd min TRY PANTHERS to prop Stanton Albert, off the back of a penalty against Zac Woolford for not being square at marker. It's scored under the posts. Converted by Cleary.

This will be a tough day at the office for the boys.

Playing against the top team missing your two most experienced players in Bateman and Brenko.

7th min TRY PANTHERS to Nathan Cleary, he's the son of Ivan Cleary. It's again off the back of a penalty, this time McGhie is the offender. The half back just dances through and reaches out and scores. He converts his own try.

12th min Raiders have their first shot at the Penrith line, after the Panthers take the kick off over the dead ball line, but Lachlan Lewis's grubber is just a bit too long.

13th min TRY PANTHERS to winger Fuimanu Enese. The Raiders are being absolutely blown away. Every time the Panthers have the ball, they score at will. Cleary misses the conversion from out wide.

16th min Tre Williams not really handling the pressure at fullback. Raiders finally get a penalty! But the Raiders drop the ball before the set is completed. They've completed 2 of 4 sets.

21st min Canberra receive a penalty for a Panthers obstruction. Desperately needed, and gets them to near half way. The set ends with a Woolford grubber forcing a line drop out on the Panthers.

24th min Penrith think they have scored, there is a captain's challenge. Pua has dropped it, it should be no try. Looks short as well. NO TRY.

26th min Lewis kick is played at by Penrith, and the Raiders are awarded the scrum feed. Scrum near the Raiders' own 40m line. The set ends with a Lewis kick towards the goal posts, but it is defused by the Panthers.

29th min Amazing kick from Lachlan Lewis, from half way, and it just holds up in the corner of the in goal. Forces a line drop out. Unfortunately, the set ends with another dropped ball, this time from Jack Williams.
