Got home two weeks ago from my four months abroad. Ahh what a time I had. Started off in Brazil for the World Cup, saw all of Australia's games. Was an absolutely amazing experience. Brazil is such an interesting and beautiful country. Rio de Janeiro was my favourite city of all places visited in my 4 months. People in this country are so friendly and there is so much to see and do. World Cup made it an even more crazy month. Never experienced an atmosphere, either in the streets or in the stadium, like I did in Brazil. Never seen so much passion for something, as the Brazilians are for football.

Then went over to Buenos Aires before embarking on Europe for three months. Did a tour that took us through France, Spain, Italy, Corfu in Greece, Austria, Germany, Swiss Alps and the Netherlands. Then with the three mates I was traveling with returned to the Greek Islands before making our way through Budapest, Bratislava, Prague and then returned to Germany before finishing continental Europe by watching the Socceroos play Belgium in
Belgium. Then spent a month in the UK. Only regret was perhaps opting for Santorini and Mykonos ahead of Croatia. Didn't enjoy it as much as we imagined, though still relatively nice. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though. And one other possible regret was spending slightly too long in England. Berlin was my favourite city in Europe. Amazing nightlife, so much to see and do. Barcelona was also great.

Had the absolute time of my life. Return to uni next year, but already planning a month in Cuba-Mexico next year during its semester break.

Oh yeah, that's right, there was a World Cup on this year.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Righto I have long service due in July and I want to take a well deserved break. Within a reasonable budget of about $5k can anyone suggest a good destination for myself, missus and 1-2 yo boy.

Beach, Poolbar and no hustle and bustle. No overcrowded places either.

GO!

You could manage Hawaii with the young bloke I reckon. And, if you're keen on just a night or two with the missus whilst there, you could hand the young bloke onto Allenby to be looked after.

Fiji and Vanuatu are both good. Stay at a resort and lounge by the pool drinking cocktails all day or go and visit a village or something. The locals are really friendly and arrange everything you want.

We stayed in a little cabin on the lake in Vanuatu and our whole holiday would've been less than 5k. It was brilliant.

The missus is keen on Vanuatu. I got a quote for $4400 flights and accommodation

I looked into Bora Bora but with hotel quote alone of $7k I don't think that is an option.

As per usual Lucy you were very helpful.

R85, the Maryborough trip is coming along swell. So good in fact that we now plan to get married on this holiday and where better than the grand town of Maryborough, home of P.L. Travers.

There is a croc in the Mary River. A siting would no doubt top off a memorable occasion.

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place, but looking for some Canberra Holiday advice. Funnily enough there was talk about Hervey Bay in here, and it's where I was born and have lived for the past 18 years!

My girlfriend and I are planning a holiday as she wants to go skiing and Canberra works perfectly. It's from the 10th-19th of July (2 Raiders home games for me!), just seeing if anyone has any advice on a good place to stay near the stadium as we'll be working to and from. Also if anyone has been skiing, if there are any good skiing tourist trips or good places to do that. Thanks!

There's no decent hotels in walking distance of the stadium. Stay in Civic, you'll be near more shops, restaurants and bars, and catch the bus or splurge on a cab to get to the stadium. Don't know about skiing...

Okay thanks mate, really looking forward to the trip! Been to one Raiders game on Goldy in 2013. I'll be at both home games on the 10th and 18th :thumbsup
