With Tolman and Vaughan starting, we would only need joys on the bench to freshen up Vaughan

Raiders to hook Garvey

The Raiders picked up one of the signings of the season this year in English hooker Josh Hodgson.
But the club is looking to bolster its hooking depth and is in talks with Dragons hooker Craig Garvey.
The Dragons are keen to retain Garvey but he is yet to put pen to paper.

He would be a handy addition to the Raiders and is a talented number nine who works hard in defence but can also get the team going forward from dummy half.

Would be fighting with Baptiste. One or both would be at mounties. Competition is key and injury cover is vital

Garvey plays lock in NSW Cup doesn't he??? If so, I he is one of those utility guys, a-la Hinchcliffe, MM, and even Aubusson.
He would be 3rd of 4th string hooker though.

if he can play back row I reckon he'll be a good chance of getting the bench spot ahead of Baptiste, would certainly be the end of Buttriss Raiders career

Any source on the Tolman rumours? Or just mates of mates??

Would be better than Tamou if it happens! :)

He would give Rick more options re his bench use.

With reduced interchange and the likelihood Hodgo will become a 70-80 minute hooker in most matches then Baptiste on the bench just to play 10 mins makes less sense.

A hooker/lock who can do stints at both and cover Hodgeson in injury emergency might be a better choice. Baptiste has had some great touches but has been inconsistent enough not make himself undroppable.

100%. A hooker/lock gives a lot more options

Dean Pay coached him in 2013 under 20s origin. So presumably there is some connection there. At 174cm cant see him having a lot of impact in the back row. That said we definitely need another hooking option given buttriss and mccrone arent likely to be here in 2016.. if hodgson gets injured there is no way baptist plays 80 mins..

I don't mind us exploring options like Garvey because I don't think we push much further forward with Baptiste in first grade.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

I dont mind the idea of upgrading that utility spot, i like Baptiste and think he's played some really good footy for us, but agree there is a limit to what you can hope to get from him, that being said I think Baptiste has shown more at FG level than Garvey.

Hodgson looks to be transitioning to an 80 minute hooker too, so maybe our #14 needs not to be a hooker first and foremost and instead look at a Lewis Brown type player who can fill in at hooker only if we needed but can play other positions and contribute

If we make no more signings than a prop I'd pick Williams there. Can play hooker if need be at a stretch and come into the halves if we're chasing points. Stuart won't be able to use the bench effectively anyway.

I'm a fan of baptiste. Great impact off the bench.

Either tolman or tamou would be great pick ups. Happy with either. Tolman would probably be cheaper. I find it funny that tamou's wife and children live in canberra but he apparently has no interest on moving to canberra.

I know you enjoy floating really out the box suggestions but that's one of the worst ones yet

I don't see anything to suggest Williams can play hooker, defensively it would be too much, and he's a ball player and kicker, can't run the ball a lick. What sort of impact would you hope to get from him off the bench?

That's a real "ooooof" moment

Agree pigles. People on this forum have the tendancy to just assume players can play other positions. Ive never once seen edwards line up at prop. Plays most of his time on an edge from what ive seen. Yet people just assume hes a mobile prop

Even I have to agree with Pigface here. Williams isn't your "impact type" guy, I mean he's not going to come on and set up a bunch of tries or anything. He's more your general organiser type of half, which is the roll Sezer will be playing.

And I can't see him defending in the middle either.

The tolman rumour was by a guy who "had inside knowledge of the bulldogs", he said we had signed tolman but then covered himself by saying that "things change all the time in rugby league, so who knows if it will pan out".
Also ive read worse ideas than moving williams to bench hooker, a guy on facebook thinks he should play centre.
I've got legs, and i know how to use them
