I really would love to see the guys who award these have to point out our players on the field. Pretty convinced 6 is their default score and they only actually fill in scores for those they recognise (or think they recognise).

So RLW believes Josh Hodgson has been 6.4/10 this season.

They seem intent on speeding up their descend into irrelevancy.

I think 6.4 is pretty fair. He has his moments but he has a long way to go before he is one of the top 4 or 5 hookers in FG.

I bet money that's similar to what buttriss averaged which makes schifty's point incredibly valid.

6.4 indicates a player has been average and just been doing an ok job all season.

Remember if Hodgson wasn't here his season we'd still have McCrone/Buttriss in the side as a hooker.

If Austin is averaging 7.1 per game, and has 100 points total, and Thurston has 104 points in total, and the top player has 106 points, that means the players would have no more than 7.5 per match. In that context, 6.5 per match is a pretty good score.

What's JT averaging I wonder? I reckon it's going to be more than 7.5

Well why didn't you say so GE! Good god man.
Interesting though, that certainly makes the scores a bit more understandable, guess they are just tough markers. I'd have JT at at least an average of 8 from what I've been watching. I mean FPN is averaging 6....

If JT only averages 7.4 a game it just proves my original point.

What on Earth is required to average 8?

When you think about it, an 8 means, obviously, you produce 8s in every match... For every 7, you need a 9 to offset it. That sort of consistent high scoring is almost physically impossible.

Well I think Hodgson has one game below 7/10 all year so do the maths...

I think knowing that JT is so low, that my bigger issue is with the low scores not being low enough. If you are going to be a tough marker on what's an 8,9 or 10 then when a guy stinks it up you have be tough as well. No way is the following right:

Edrick Lee 6.4
Josh Hodgson 6.4
Bill Tupou 6.0
Frank Paul Nuuausala 6.0
Shannon Boyd 6.0

For all the bleating, Hodgo is 4 points off being in our top 3 players this year. after 19 rounds. 4 whole points. And is top 5 regardless. Mountains. Molehills. Carry on about how your expertise is SO much better than these judges who have got it less than 0.2 wrong each week.

The GH Fans' Choice voting is actually sort of the same as RLW: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=29117

Except poor old Jarrod Croker is getting overlooked, dreadfully, by The GH.

My mistake, I bow to the infinite wisdom of those who after 15 weeks had Hodgson on the same average as Edrick Lee as well as Boyd on the same average as FPN and Billy T. I'm sorry for ever doubting them and certainly sorry for having the gall to state it on this forum...

You can't compare averages of players with lots of games to those with one game.

Fair point, Ok remove Billy T, insert Baptiste actually being lower than FPN instead.
Edit. Or you can remove Billy T and the point I was making still makes sense with Hodgson being on par with Lee and Boyd with FPN.

Boyd got a six! Normality is restored.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Now way BJ=Shillo=Williams=Baptiste=Vaughan=FPN this week.

Shillo cost us 12 points. He should be a 3 or 4.
BJ made 3 tackles, and missed 3. How much does his 60 odd meters make up for that? ....hmmmm.
Baptiste scored a try, consolation or otherwise, its worth more than what Shillo produced.

Another week of 'how do they mark this stuff'???

Matt, I think you need to take over the "As I saw it" player ratings column.

Without having gone and looked, I wonder how often they give out 4s or lower?

Seems an awful lot like video game reviews; if you're a writer for a reputable games site you can't give a game below 6 or the publisher stops advertising on your site - shoot yourself in the foot via honesty (review the case of Jeff Gerstmann if anybody's interested). For RLW I guess if you start handing out a bunch of 4s and 3s the players'd get pissy and all of a sudden you can't get interviews and content to fill out the rest of your magazine.

Translated RLW ratings:
1 to 4 - That performance was so bad we're risking our relationship with the player and club to call them on it.
5 - Abysmal
6 - Meh
7 - A very good performance
8 - MoTM
9 or 10 - Amazeballs, fanboy drool
:!: Warning: poster is incapable of humour, engage with at your own risk. Symptoms of engagement may include frustration, mental imbalance and temporary insanity.

I can tell you that quite a few fours and one three have been given so far this season for just the Raiders players.
