There's a rumour in UK that Leeds Rhinos are chasing McCrone for 2016. Is this rumour true and will he do well in ESL ?

I think he's actually really well suited to the ESL and honestly, if the likes of Dobson and Burns can do it McCrone can too.

Yeah, it's going to be really easy for everyone here to say he'll kill it over there because, well basically the coach just wants to offload him from our squad. In saying that, his style and running game would suit the ESL.

Just don't expect the ordinary passes and horribly inconsistent kicking game to be lost somewhere in the Indian Ocean as he makes his way over there. Unfortunately it's a job lot.

There aren't many good kicking halves in the ESL anyways, mccrone would be in the top half of that comp easily.

If guys like Michael Dobson and Scott Dureau can go over there and have reasonable success, i dont see any reason to think Josh McCrone wouldnt.

He'd be a very good ESL footballer i think

Thanks for your comments. Do you know if the UK rumour is true that he is talking to Leeds about a transfer ?

Dragons hunt another Raider

The Mole

THE DRAGONS are thinking of signing out-of-favour Raiders utility Josh McCrone. Although he has been unable to play much first grade at the Raiders this year. McCrone still has zip and spark and would make a handy number 14 for the Big Red V.

His ability to play at both hooker and in the laves is also a big plus in his favour.

Several Super League clubs are also keen on the 28-year-old former Country Origin rep, who has over 130 top grade games with the Raiders to his name.

Him and butters were great for Mounties against the Warriors. Way above reserve grade standard but below regular first grade standard would be a frustrating place to be in.
You can see Nicholls is in the same place at the moment. Still annoyed we are not keeping him but after what TPJ has been doing lately you can see why we need to clear the decks a bit.

I think McCrone would probably kill it in ESL. Its a faster game over there with more space, so less 'forced passes', aka falcons, required. :P

Josh McCrone would be good for the ESL. He's not NRL standard, because he lacks consistency.
I hope he goes well if he goes over.
He has good speed, a decent short passing game and can defend ok.
He is deplored by many because he over plays his hand and makes some cringeworthy mistakes.

How on earth did that Dragons team make the top 8?

Shows you what a half decent defence can do for you though.

This has been my point exactly when people (and I'm looking in your general direction, Droopy) keep banging on that our squad wasn't good enough this year. If we had a half-decent defence (and yes, THIS squad could defend half-decently if they put their minds to it and had the right structure), we'd be playing finals football THIS YEAR with the attack we've got.

That really bugs me.

I have been hearing rumours that McCrone has signed for 2017 with Dragons, but they have baulked at paying the money to get him away from his contract next year with Raiders.

Fair enough, anything above minimum wage would be hard to justify.

He can play fullback. Apparently Dugan is the next Jarryd Hayne.

I wouldn't have thought josh mccrone is the sort of player you sign a year in advance. Would seem silly to tie up salary cap space on such an average player

I hope, given the options, McCrone goes to the ESL because I reckon he'd do really well over there whereas he could languish in no man's land at the Dragons.

With his durability, I reckon he could play a fair while still too.

Good luck wherever you end up, Josh.

Have Leeds still got a chance of signing McCrone?
